Bad Religion: Broken

Weekend Music

I've mentioned the eMusic and Amazon free mp3s of which I've collected quite a few. This is one of those. A couple of days ago I was listening, on my way to work, to a fairly random collection of stuff having in common only that I had obtained it around the same time and backed it up on the same disk. This song came up and I was really struck by the line "There's no such thing as human debris." Bad Religion is an old punk group whose logo is a cross with one of those red circle-slash things over it (though, according to their Wikipedia entry, they now ascribe this to teenage desire to shock). Not exactly the sort of thing I would seek out, either musically or philosophically. But I found this song affecting, with its portrait (as far as I can make out) of two misfits who fit with each other, especially that one line, which could have been spoken by Mother Theresa.  Also, it rocks.

To me it's one more piece of evidence that often when people think they hate Christianity it's really only a superficial or distorted image that they hate. Unfortunately, as we all know, sometimes the superficiality and distortion comes from Christians.
