Mourning Into Dancing

Weekend Music

I've been thinking I might stop doing this, as I'm so busy these days that I rarely even listen to music. But I happened to run across both these today, by totally unrelated paths, and the juxtaposition was so striking that I'm passing it along. The first was a post by godescalc at There Are Real Things, an interesting blog which had been languishing for a while but has recently had a few more posts. Nick Cave has moments of major brilliance, and this is one of them.

Earlier I had been, as is my bad habit, scrolling through the new releases at eMusic.com, when, as also happens pretty often, an interesting album cover caught my eye. So I clicked over to the album's page and saw this YouTube video and found both song and video very engaging. The artist's name is Anna Ihlis and I had never heard of her before.  She's Swedish; here's her web site. She seems to be in the line of female artists going back at least to Lene Lovich in the '70s who are inevitably referrred to as "quirky."
