The Platters: The Great Pretender

Weekend Music

Released in late 1955, on the charts in 1956. I remember this quite distinctly, but I was only seven years old in early 1956, and I think my memory is from when I was older, maybe twelve or thirteen. That puzzled me until I remembered that on the radio–which was the only way I heard music until I was in my teens–in those days they played "oldies" from time to time, and an oldie was anything that wasn't a current hit.

  1. For some reason I forget now the guy who looks like George Clooney sang this to me on the camino. It was not 100% penitential.

  2. I don’t recall you having mentioned the George Clooney aspect of the pilgrimage!

  3. I mentioned it quite early, that there was a guy who looked like George Clooney. Someone commented, ‘just one’, and another person said that one is two too many. Unfortunately, he had his plane booked for a certain date out of Santiago, and felt he was behind, so he got the bus to jump a couple of days. I saw them in Santiago, on my last day.
