Christ said "I am the Way," and I am sure that the search and longing for Him, the things that bring you closer to Him, are all means of union with Him. So that it would be silly and wrong not to realize that every prayer said in any church, every act of love to everyone, every doubt or question honestly entertained, is a means of union with Him; and He includes that meaning in "I am the Way."

I must buy these letters when I get back to the USA

They are probably my favorite of everything she wrote. We have the book in the seminary library, and I periodically check it out and keep it for 6 months, since I don’t have to pay fines. I’m the only person who has ever checked it out. I wish they would sell it to me. Maybe I’ll ask.

I wasn’t planning to read them until I’d finished some other things, but picked up the book one day recently and just read a couple of things at random, and decided to check it out for the Christmas break.
I’m sure our library will eventually discard both this and Rocking Horse Catholic, and I hope I can get them. It appears that this is the first time the letters have ever been checked out. I can’t tell how long they’ve had the book but my guess is probably since not long after it was published in 1965. -
I’m going to get it from abebooks today. One of my PhD students is writing his essay on CH, so I need to have read more.

Grumpy, maybe you can put in a word with Ave Maria Press, right down the road from you there in Indiana, about publishing Houselander’s letters. 🙂
They’ve brought out two of her books since 2006, The Reed of God and This War Is the Passion. And they’re very reasonably priced.
