This doesn't seem to be a joke. Seems like a pretty big deal, as the Lambeth Conference has been an important feature of Anglican life for generations (since 1867, to be exact). I'm not all that well informed on things Anglican, but I would think this represents a significant recognition of the lack of unity that now exists within the Anglican Communion. Or at least an effect of it.
Lambeth Cancelled (?)

Too bad they didn’t think of that 84 years ago.
It must already be off schedule if it’s supposed to be every 10 years.

If you look at the list in Wikipedia, it’s been off before, by as much as 18 years (1930-1948). But on schedule since then. The one they’re apparently cancelling would have been 2018.

Interesting that the announcement of a cancellation was made by the presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church, the Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori. She also on that same day announced that she would be stepping down after her current term as presiding bishop.
The Archbishop of Canterbury must not be thrilled that she jumped the gun on this. Although he had told the Australians in August that the date of the conference was up in the air:During his one-day visit to Australia, the Archbishop said that decisions about any changes were best made by the Communion as a whole, not in one place; and that included the next Lambeth Conference, “whenever that might be”.
“There is nothing magic about the number eight,” he said, meaning that the next Lambeth Conference was not necessarily to be held in 2018, the year when it would be held according to the custom. -
I’ve gotten the impression that the American Episcopal Church has often been a problem for those who wanted to take a go-slow conciliatory approach to the sex-oriented questions that Americans are so obsessed with.
“I will continue to engage us in becoming a more fully diverse church…”

That does seem to be pretty significant.
