Habemus Grandson

Sunday Night Monday Morning Journal — May 24, 2010

Emmitt Samuel Tynes, born at 12:43AM, 7lb 5oz (about 3.3 kilograms). Mother and baby are both fine, or more than fine: mother looked remarkably fresh at 2AM after being in labor for somewhere around twelve hours, and Emmitt is strikingly alert and hungry, and seemingly good-tempered about his new situation. Father delighted, grandmothers beside themselves, grandfather having a celebratory drink of Old Grand-Dad.

There is some controversy about whether it should be “Emmitt” or “Emmett.” I voted for “Emmett” but was over-ruled.

You were right, Maclin. I was thinking that last night–two of each letter–would have been very neat.

  6. I didn’t think about the two of each letter, it’s just that in my mind the correct spelling is “ett” not “itt”. You see it both ways but I guess I’ve seen it more with the “e”.
Today is also Bob Dylan’s birthday.

How about you, Louise? How much longer?

Janet, I can’t decide if it’s “too long” or “not long enough.” LOL! But unles the baby wants to come early s/he will arrive in about 2 months from now.
I think “Emmett” looks right, btw. I’ve never seen it spelt otherwise. I’m sure he is gorgeous, all the same.
Maclin, do you have other grandchildren?

  10. No, this is the first. Also the first grandchild on the father’s side of the family. Also the first great-grandchild for my mother, in spite of the fact that she has 11 adult grandchildren. This baby is not going to lack attention.

  11. Congrats!!

    Congratulations and blessings all round!

Well, that is just grand, Maclin! Our eldest is the first grandchild on both sides and was the first great-grandchild for 3 out of 4 sets of ancestors.
    Highly doted upon, she was!

  14. Is she spoiled? Are you still trying to convince her the world doesn’t revolve around her? 🙂

  15. Man, I need to check in more often. Belated congratulations to all!
(I really do need to check in more often. You’ve been hitting them out of the park lately. I can’t decide which recent post I want to link to first . . . maybe I’ll just link to all of them at once).

  16. Thanks, Sally, on both counts.
Interesting, I find that I have had a lot of trouble making time to read other people’s blogs lately. I’m not sure why.

  17. Thanks for the book-post link, too, by the way.
Yes, I find I just have very limited internet-social energy lately. After being a real-life introvert all my life, I’m finally becoming a cyber-introvert, too. The ugliness of many of the online conversations I follow (in spite of myself) makes me disinclined to participate, and then I find myself shying away even from pleasant ones with good people.
Oh, and congratulations to Louise on her upcoming baby. I have been out of it!

Maclin, I’ve only just noticed your reply here to my last.
We convinced her she is not the centre of the universe by inflicting her with a baby brother when she was just 13.5 months old and then giving her more siblings to look after on a tolerably regular basis!

Somehow I missed this. Congrats and blessings to all, Mac!

  20. Thanks, Rob.
