Weekend Music
This has been quite a day for broken things.

That sounds pretty mysterious.
BTW that is a great song.
Yes! The Millers are the first couple I think of when I think of musical couples.
By the way, this was going to be the last one in this series. Except maybe for Fleetwood Mac, in which two members were married for a time (but I’m not sure if it was when they were both in the band), and Linda McCartney’s presence in Wings, both of which are a little questionable as well as not being very interesting artistically, I’m out of instances. So if anybody has any others, let me know.
What about Johnny and June Carter? Or is that too much of a stretch? (They weren’t a ‘duo’ in the strict sense.)
Did you just accidentally leave out “Cash” or were you making a statement? Anyway, they would sorta fit, at least–they did make some music together, though they were better known separately.
Did I miss Tina and Ike?
And then of course there’s Jill Copper and Jon Dudley (seated centre and right), but since they perform in a larger family ensemble that might not count.
No, you didn’t miss Ike & Tina, but I did. Not sure whether I should include them or not, since she says Ike was pretty abusive. I’m trying to watch/listen to that video you linked to and as usual having trouble.
What other Johnny and June Carter could I have meant?
I can’t remember if you had a post about Arcade Fire. The core of that band is a husband and wife.
Rez Band also comes to mind.
Customarily it’s “Johnny Cash and June Carter,” so I wondered if perhaps you consider June the greater talent.
I don’t know Arcade Fire’s music, and didn’t know there was a husband and wife involved. And never heard of Rez Band at all. I’ll check them both out.
Somewhat on topic: have you heard the string of Innocent Mission songs which start with a song which begins ‘Beautiful Saviour’, then it goes on to Christ is my light, then it has ‘Sacred Head sore wounded,’ and ‘Were you there when they crucified my Lord?’ ? A colleague burned it onto a disc for me, and said it was rare. I don’t know if it exists on any of the CDs on general release. If you haven’t heard it but would like to, I could ask him how to send a copy of music which I have as a handmade CD. It’s really fine.
That sounds approximately like this release. Is it? Amazon shows it as available so I should buy it rather than have a copy.
That is what it is. It’s lovely. I never noticed it on amazon.
I vaguely remembered having seen something of the sort, which is why I looked on their site. Don’t know why I’d never looked at it. Thanks for the offer, btw.
I have thought about getting that album because it has several of my favorite hymns.

Oh. I’ve always heard her called “June Carter Cash” (after the marriage, of course). Your question makes better sense now.
Rez Band = Resurrection Band. They were (and perhaps still are) a bluesy, hard-rock Christian band out of Chicago, I believe. They must have put out at least 20 records, starting in the 1970s. Some of their stuff is really good. He (Glenn Kaiser by name, if I remember), especially, had a wonderful rock ‘n’ roll voice. This is a good song.
Arcade Fire really started as a husband and wife, and other musicians gathered around them. He writes most of the songs; she sings and plays instruments. I like this song.
The singer in Rez Band sounds a whole lot like Bob Seger, esp. at the beginning of that song.
I saw Arcade Fire on tv a while back and was struck by the energy of the dark-haired girl on the kb. I guess she’s the wife? There seemed to be some kind of different interplay between the two of them. I’m embarrassed to admit that I have one of their albums but haven’t had time to listen to it–it was on sale for something like $3 at Amazon (mp3) so I thought I’d check it out.
