What other people experience as the first day of spring is more like the first day of summer here. I had to mow the whole lawn yesterday (I did a couple of especially weed-ridden spots last weekend) and soon had sweat running down onto my glasses.
Sweat, eh? Yesterday I drove a harrowing 3-1/2 hours through the aftermath of a snow storm: cars strewn in the ditches, the highway down to one icy, snow-swept lane, and poor visibility. When I arrived home, I had to shovel out the backyard. It was too cold for me to sweat though.
I don’t suppose it’s any consolation, but in July you’ll be comfortable, and I’ll be pushing a lawn mower in the equivalent of a sauna.
Perhaps more consoling: old man winter returned overnight. I stepped outside this morning and was shocked to discover that the temperature had dropped to 55F/12C. I dashed back inside for my parka.
That is slightly, but only slightly, consoling. We are slowly struggling up to 0C (32F) today. Happily, there is no more snow in the forecast for a few days, and we should have a good melt early next week. Spring is coming!
Of course I don’t actually own a parka, and decided to just take my chances as far as dying of exposure was concerned.
Well, I don’t own sunglasses.
