("Big Hard Sun" is the name of an excellent song from an excellent and under-rated album by Indio, Big Harvest.) I took this picture this evening about 7:20. I was taking out the garbage and there was such a brilliant glow beyond the trees by the bay that I got my camera and walked down there. I hope this doesn't make your head hurt.

That’s a terrific picture! I am always amazed at how beautiful your area is. Nice symmetry too.

Thanks. It’s interesting–this is really not what I saw, exactly, but it’s what the camera saw. I’m sure pointing it more or less at the sun that way was rather trying for it.

The golden sheen on everything is very nice. It puts me in mind of the book Dandelion Wine and the joys of summer.

This picture does actually hurt my eyes. I can’t figure it out.

I almost changed my mind about posting it because last night the more I looked at it the more uncomfortable I was. But I decided to go ahead for the sake of northern friends who might appreciate the warmth. It isn’t bugging me today.

Maybe it’s the difference in computers?

That can definitely make a difference, though I’d have to see my two monitors side by side to know if that accounts for my reaction last night.

Well, this person in the Southern Hemisphere (New Zealand) loves the photo! Outside my windows right now there’s a howling, freezing northeasterly wind, snow is expected, and the sun is nowhere in sight (it’s almost 9:00 a.m.). I keep staring at your beautiful photo and imagining myself feeling the warmth. So, many thanks for posting it.

My bad! I forget that you folks on the other side (vertically) of the world have your seasons all backwards. Even the Canadians and Finns aren’t having winter right now.
You know you can click on that picture and get a bigger view, right?
