Nobody knew better than Christ that people to whom everday things like holding a job or interacting with another human being are never-ending sources of torture and anxiety are exactly the ones most in need of healing. A guy who hung out with lepers, paralytics, the possessed: this is someone I can trust. We don't have to go up to him, he comes down to us. We want a doctor, a hospital, meds; he gives us himself. We want to stop the suffering; he says, I'll suffer with you

–Heather King

This was part of one of the daily meditations in Magnificat. Heather King is a convert who has written a couple of memoirs. This is the first thing I've read by her and I definitely want to try one of the books.

  1. This is from Redeemed, which I think is the best. You almost have to read Parched first, though, to really appreciate it.

  2. This sounds just like something CH would say, doesn’ t it?

  3. Yes, it does, and as it happens I was reading very similar things from the CH biography and getting them mixed up.
The only problem about reading one of HK’s books is that I had more or less sworn off reading memoirs till I finished writing mine, which isn’t going to be for another year or so.

  4. Well then, Shirt of Flame is less like a memoir and more like, well I hate to say this, but like something I might write. She spent a year reading Story of a Soul and writes about Therese’s life and spirituality and how this resonated with her own life and faith.

  5. Sorry about mistakes-writing from KF.
I meant to say that HK’s mother, Janet, is dying, so you might want to say a prayer for them.

  6. I’ll do that. And put off the decision about which of her books to read.
