Apparently she really didn't want to give Mick Jagger a knighthood. (Daily Mail link, so full of pictures of girls in bikinis.) I'd like to think she also objected to Elton John's.

What a joke! Sir Mick Jagger. That is even more “out there” than Elton John and PAul McCartney. Who could possibly take this stuff seriously?

Services to British exports? Services to Tony Blair’s self-image? I’m not sure what considerations lie behind these things.

I can only think it’s for bringing money into the country. I’ve always supposed that had more than a little to do with Sir Francis Drake’s knighthood.
