I just want to make sure everyone realizes how admirable it is that I'm keeping my promise not to talk about politics, when such topics as CENSORED and CENSORED are begging for comment.

  1. Truly admirable.

  2. We certainly appreciate your restraint in the face of such provocations!

  3. Admirable indeed.

  4. Yes, admirable, but I miss your venting. It actually helps me calm down a bit. Which I need after things like reading about Obama’s press conference today.
So, don’t want to exactly encourage you to fall off the wagon, but…

  5. I actually had wanted to make those blacked-out words into links, one to the especially nutty story about one of the parties in the big sex scandal asking if she could have diplomatic protection because she had been named an honorary friend of the consulate or something. I don’t think you get diplomatic immunity in your own country anyway…. But I didn’t have time to work out the formatting, because I was in the middle of packing for a trip. I am now in Ocala, Florida, on a work-related mission, and won’t be online much–conference all day tomorrow, driving all day Friday, as I was today.
By all means, everyone feel free to discuss or vent here. I didn’t actually read about O’s press conference. It’s kinda late now and I don’t think I want to read something (else) that’s likely to get me all irritated. Maybe tomorrow night.
I guess this could be snuck in as not exactly political. Or not purely. Quasi-religious political nuttiness.

  6. See, when I said I wasn’t going to “talk” about politics, what I meant was that I wasn’t going to do any blog posts about it. So, legalistically, I can discuss it in comments.

  7. I want to know how to make black boxes like that–and how to type words that are struck out.

  8. Janet, on blogger I used to do “strike through” words with [s] and [/s] I think.

  9. I just read the first paragraph of the article you linked to Maclin: what a nutter!

  10. The word “nutter” exists for people like that. Yet it’s as sad as it is absurd.
TypePad made the black boxes fairly easy because it gives you buttons for things like changing the background color. I just selected a word, then changed its background color to black. Can you code HTML directly in Blogger? The HTML, substituting [] for <> to try to get it past TP, is:
    [span style=”background-color: #111111;”] CENSORED[/span]
I’m pretty sure strike-thru is just the word “strike”, with the usual open and closing structure as with “i” for italics.

  11. I can use it in the posts on my blog, and I can can’t use it in comments there.

  12. Oh fun. Will <span style=”background-color:#111111;>this work?

  13. Guess not.
