Lo, How a Rose E’er Blooming

Flowering plants bred for cooler climates tend to get confused here, when we can have temperatures anywhere from freezing to 70+F/20+C. This rose is an example. I just noticed yesterday that it was blooming. Appropriate, ain't it? It's amazing that it blooms at all, because it doesn't get the special care that roses apparently need in any climate. It hangs on, not looking very healthy, not growing very much, but now and then putting forth one or two beautiful blooms.

Merry Christmas!

  1. Beautiful. I love roses in December. They always remind me of Our Lady of Guadalupe and now my granddaughter.

  2. One of my favorite Christmas carols. I first learned it when I was in the Men’s Chorus at Golden Gate Baptist Seminary. We sang it a capella as in the John Rutter number here, but a little slower. It is always lovely, and John Rutter is always superb.

  3. I didn’t pick that one out deliberately, it just happened to be the first one YouTube showed me. But it is a really good performance.
Hmm, nice coincidence: as I write this I have John Fahey’s Christmas album playing, that carol.
