One of our students at the seminary said that when he told the family he was going to be a preacher, his grandmother said, “I always knew James was going to preach because he has such expensive tastes.”
Probably all the United Methodists were shaking their heads.

I’m afraid I can’t repeat a pretty obscene joke I heard many years ago about the call to preach, but the import was similar to that grandmother’s remark.
