Always enjoyed her voice — that first October Project album is a gem!
It’s a spectacular voice, though kind of an odd one. Not as spectacular on this song as on some others on the album Other Side of Time, which I just listened to for the first time this week. Never heard October Project.
October Project was the band she sang lead for back in the 90s. They did two albums, of which the first self-titled one is better, imo. It came out in ’93 or ’94.
Here’s a clip of their appearance on Conan O’Brien’s show. You can see that Fahl is a tiny little thing — no idea where that voice comes from!

That’s lovely.

Ain’t it though.
Yeah, Rob, you can’t read anything at all about her without October Project being mentioned almost as if her later work has been an afterthought.
I just watched that clip. Definitely a(nother) band that I need to check out. It’s like books–there are just too many. Yes, she is tiny. I seem to recall reading that Sandy Denny was quite small.
The relationship between singing voice and general physique seems to be odd and unpredictable, although there does seem to be some tendency for the best voices to belong to bigger (including just plain fatter) people.
Btw, my after-two-hearings review of the album from which “Going Home” is taken would be mixed. Great singing, obviously, and all-around great musicianship, but not all the songs seem top-notch to me. And as an album it has too much of the same sound throughout. Best not heard all at once, I think.
The first O.P. CD is well worth getting — not a bad song on it.
