Christian faith, inasmuch as it proclaims the truth of God’s total love and opens us to the power of that love, penetrates to the core of our human experience. Each of us comes to the light because of love, and each of us is called to love in order to remain in the light.

To me, this also sounds mostly like Benedict.
Anyone know why both Francis and Benedict aren’t listed as authors on the encyclical? -
I only knew that it was so because I was in a class where they talked about it, and before I posted, I looked on line to make sure I heard correctly, but I don’t know why.
Maybe it’s some kind of papal protocol.

Although, I think it’s the first time it has ever happened.

It’s very common for papal encyclicals to be drafted by others, but their character as an encyclical depends upon them being authorised by the pope in office (making him the “author”).
The introduction does say:
Benedict XVI … had almost completed a first draft of an encyclical on faith. For this I am deeply grateful to him, and as his brother in Christ I have taken up his fine work and added a few contributions of my own. -
I knew that others wrote parts of encyclicals, but I was thinking I read that this was the first time a pope and finished the encyclical of another pope.

Hmm…in any case maybe I should use another source of Pope F quotes.

Yes, I think it’s unique in being an encyclical drafted by one pope for his successor.
