Psalm 95:8-9

To-day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts
 as in the provocation, and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness;
When your fathers tempted me,
 proved me, and saw my works.

  1. Anybody who prays the Liturgy of the Hours will recognize this as the psalm that begins every day. It ends (in the Grail):
    Forty years I endured that generation.
    I said, “They are a people whose hearts go astray
    and they do not know my ways.”
    So I swore in my anger,
    “They shall not enter my rest.”

    When I first started praying the office, I was about 30, and so I would think, “I only have about 10 years to straighten up!” Obviously, I can only rely on His mercy now.

  2. This year will mark 40 since I entered the Church. So I guess time is about to run out for me, too.
